California Is Turning Back Into A Desert And There Are No Contingency Plans

Serious stuff, here. Doom-n-gloom prophecies are often exaggerated, but there’s a lot of careful research behind this. We really need to face the fact that our way of life is not sustainable.

I do disagree with one statement made here: that the world eats more food than we produce each year. Nope – we throw away enough food to feed all the hungry people. And most of what we grow goes to feed an overabundance of animals that we then slaughter for food. This is highly inefficient and is wasteful use of water in its own right.

Seriously folks. What are we going to do about this?

  1. It’s insane that most people bury their heads in the sand over this. This is really serious and there are no longer easy fixes. When push comes to shove, it’s going to get mighty ugly over there.

I’d heard California was trying to buy water from Texas at some point, and when that didn’t work they tried to get the courts to force Texas to share their water.

It’s not dire yet, but Texas isn’t in great shape either. If we’re not careful we could use up our reserves too.
