Series, Books, and Expectations

While I am happily pushing my second book, which will be published in  oh-my-gosh, a month, I have also turned a significant portion of my brain to Book 3.

I have already given this book a title. Want to know what it is?

Of course you do.

Honor System

Yes, yes, there’s a Time Travel Journals in front of it. And I know it doesn’t end in any form of “builder.” But there is no way I was going to try that  three times in a row. Nope, Honor System, it is.

I am brainstorming plot lines and character arcs, and I have a grand total of 184 actual words written. They are not the beginning. I don’t have enough planning done to know exactly where they fall in the story. But they were itching my brain and I had to get them onto paper.

I like it when that happens.

  1. How do you go about coming up with great book titles?

I’ve kind of figured out how to write a good first line and a decent blurb. Yet when it comes to the title of my short stories, they are all kind of blah.

    1. Oh, I have no end of problems with titles. I have a three-page document with suggested titles for Shipbuilder. It took me about a year to decide on that one.

Honestly? I just let my brain go loose, and *Honor System* was one of the things that popped up. I just decided not to give it a lot of thought. I like it, there’s nothing particularly wrong with it, and it sort of describes my desire to have my characters Do the Right Thing.

I could drive myself crazy by refusing to be satisfied with anything until I was SURE I had the perfect title. Maybe I’m just getting old, but it didn’t seem worth it.

Talk to me!
