Even though in Real Life, I am writing (well, revising/editing – because I finished it!) a book, I still read other books. Constantly. I always have one or two books going. This a slow process, because most of my reading time occurs in the fifteen minutes between climbing into bed and falling asleep.
I’m sure you know what I mean.
My current book is Mr. Norrell and Jonathan Strange by Susanna Clarke. I’m enjoying it immensely, and you can tell by my use of the word, immensely, that what I read sometimes colors my writing.
Unfortunately, I am borrowing this e-book from my husband. If you know anything about Amazon’s Kindle borrowing program, you will know that I only get to have a borrowed book on my Kindle for two weeks.
This is not enough time to read Mr. Norrell and Jonathan Strange, using fifteen minute slots per day. I just checked over at Amazon, and this book clocks in at 866 pages.
The short version, is that today or tomorrow, my time runs out, and I will no longer have access to this book. “Well,” you say, “you live with the guy who lent you the book. Can’t you just read it on his Kindle?”
“Yes,” I will reply. “As soon as he’s done reading his current book.” In fact, that is exactly what I will do. I just hope it’s not too far in the future, or I will forget everything I’ve read, and have to start over.
That just might keep me from reading the book. I’m about halfway through it.
