Other Writers: Darke Conteur, Paranormal Pit-Stop Tour

Today, I have a guest: Darke Conteur, author of The Watchtower, a new series featuring paranormal investigators who investigate… yes – paranormal crimes. The Paranormal Pit-Stop, an e-zine to the ethereal-net, is bringing us a series of interviews with our investigators. They’re a strange lot, but they mean well!

Welcome Darke! I understand you’ve got the second half of an interview with character Barbara Dole. (For the first half of the interview, go here, so you know what got Barbara so freaked out).

Thanks for that great intro, Marlene! Good luck with SHIPBUILDER!

Welcome Humans, to another addition of The Paranormal Pit Stop. Your one-stop E-zine on the Ethereal-net for everything in the paranormal world. This week, we’re proud to bring you the second half of our two-part interview with Barbara Dole.

Paranormal Pit-Stop: Welcome again Barbara. How are you doing? You were a little freaked at the end of our last interview.

Barbara: No kidding. Wouldn’t you be?

P.P.S.: Yes, I suppose. So, what do you think of your new co-worker?

Barbara: Martin? He’s cool. Catches on real quick, which says a lot considering what we brought him into on his first day. But in our defense, we didn’t know THAT was going to happen.

P.P.S.:  You’ve been around him the longest. How is he doing?

Barbara: Not too bad. There was that first interview with the reporters after the whole Embassy thing. Personally, I think he did a good job. Kept the news crews out of our hair while we cleaned up.

P.P.S.: Out of all the applicants, what made you picked him?

Barbara: Gut instinct. His name jumped out at me. See, when people are supposed to be a part of our world, their name lights up when I see it. I guess it’s the Universe’s way of letting me know they’re important.

P.P.S.: Does it bother you that he has no special ability?

Barbara: You know, I wonder about that. Artemis said I had a knack for finding lost sheep. Maybe he has some latent power we don’t know about? I don’t know, but I’m glad he’s with us.

P.P.S.: How is he getting along with the others?

Barbara: Good I guess. Daniel took to him rather quickly. That’s always a good sign, and there was a small confrontation between him and Aslin. But they’re cool now.

P.P.S.: How are you doing? We heard the Embassy incident it was pretty gruesome.

Barbara: I’m doing okay. It was hard to deal with, seeing those dead bodies chained to the wall, but Daniel assured me that their souls were released. So they aren’t suffering anymore.

P.P.S.: Did it surprise you when you learned who was behind it?

Barbara: We still don’t know who was behind the zombification. It could have been any idiot dabbling with dark magic. People think there’s no harm fiddling in things they don’t understand. Like working magic is some kind of parlour trick, when in reality it’s so much more. We’re talking about the ability to manipulate the elements or warp energy fields. They have no concept of the consequences of their actions.

P.P.S.: Not many people can wield such power. It’s been hinted that a Sorcerer was behind it?

Barbara: Come on, you know the last powerful Sorcerer died years ago. The only way he could come back is if one of his followers brought him back. And since there are no more followers…

P.P.S.: But it does make one think. Maybe he had an apprentice? You know one dark master and one follower?

Barbara: Okay look, this isn’t Star Wars and they’re not Jedi. Jezryall took care of all that crap years ago. This was just an isolated occurrence. That’s it. Don’t read more into it than there is.

P.P.S.: What if there are more?

Barbara: If there are any more, we will know about it and take care of it. Stop worrying. Nothing is going to happen. Everyone is safe.

Well, that’s all the time we have for this week’s interview. We would like to thank our host Marlene Dotterer for allowing us to post this interview on the human internet. FOOD FIGHT!

Join us next time when we visit Joyce Alton with the second half of our two-part interview with medium extraordinaire, Daniel Livingston.  So until next time, this is The Paranormal Pit-Stop saying; just because it’s dead, doesn’t mean it’s not alive!

If you’d like to learn more about Jezryall and her staff, you can find more information at the links provided below.

His first day of work wasn’t what Martin Cunningham expected. A sultry boss, a classy receptionist, the drama-queen foreigner, and a painfully shy techie who prefers hiding to human interaction, was the oddest group of characters he’d ever met. When an assassination attempt is made against his new boss, Martin comes face to face with the stuff of nightmares.

Now he and his new co-workers must race to prevent another attack, but where do they start? There’s very little to go on, and the only solid piece of evidence escaped through the u-bend in the toilet. By the end of the day, Martin becomes one of the privileged few who really understands what lies in the shadows, and what it means to work in THE WATCHTOWER.

Darke Conteur is an author at the mercy of her muse. Writing in several genres, she prefers to write in paranormal and science fiction, and has stories published in Brave Blue Mice, Bewildering Stories, and The Absent Willow Review. When not busy writing, she looks after one wannabe rock-star, one husband, two cats, and one ghost dog.
